THE WRITER
While writing has always been at the center of my creative and professional life, I've  sometimes been reluctant to fully embrace the title of "Writer."
I grew up loving to create stories and build new worlds, but school taught me that writing meant fussy grammatical rules and laborious vocabulary that bore no resemblance to the way people I knew talked.  Instead, I gravitated toward writing screenplays and graphic novels, where my characters could speak freely, in all the messy, imperfect splendor of real life.
It was only when I began to write for myself instead of for teachers that I appreciated the simple power of the written word.  I came to realize that there were no "rules" – just tools I could use to remove the friction that stood between the reader and the rich experience I wanted to share with them.
Today, I enjoy all the many faces that writing can take.  In the world of film, my work has been featured on television and film festivals around the country.  My thoughts on food and travel have been published in magazines around the world.  And yet, my most widely-read work has probably been for the apps and web experiences I've helped build, including for Hulu, Spotify, Disney, and Facebook.
What unites my work is a passion for connecting people to information that can help empower them and enrich their lives. It's the pursuit of that connection that keeps me writing, regardless of my chosen medium – or my title.
